Free SOP Template Pack
Two free files to help you write SOPs in one consistent format and keep them current: a Word SOP template and an Excel revision and review log. No sign-up needed.
1. SOP template (Word)
A ready-to-edit SOP with guidance notes in every section. Delete the notes once you have filled it in.
- Document control table: SOP number, version, effective and review dates, owner and approver
- Purpose, scope, responsibilities and definitions
- Prerequisites and safety precautions
- A numbered procedure table with the responsible role and record for each step
- Records, related documents and revision history
- An optional paper acknowledgment section for staff sign-off
2. SOP revision and review log (Excel)
One row per SOP revision, with the summary of change, owner, effective date and approver. Enter a review cycle in months and the next review date is calculated for you. Rows turn red once a review date has passed.
Download the revision and review log (.xlsx)How to use the pack
-
Copy the SOP template for each new procedure and give it a number from your numbering scheme.
-
Write the procedure with the people who do the work, one action per step.
-
Record the approved version in the revision and review log, with its review cycle.
-
Publish the SOP and tell everyone who must follow it. Keep the log up to date each time the SOP changes.
Get staff to read and sign every SOP revision
A template gets the SOP written. DocRead gets it read: it assigns each SOP to the groups that use it in SharePoint, sends reminders, and records a time-stamped confirmation of the version each person read.
