Great SharePoint Survey Results

This week's Newsletter is a special - as we are really pleased to release the results of the Great SharePoint Survey that so many of you took part in 5 weeks ago. We had 637 responses, from a great cross section of users so feel that the results are pretty illustrative of the global SharePoint user base. Thank you to all that responded!

I love SharePoint because...

SharePoint Discussion"It's fairly easy to use for even non-tech folks. We have department sites with designated Site Administrators who are not tech types. Most of the management of their sites can be done with minimal instruction."

I don't like ..

SharePoint Discussion"... that End users need to know quite a lot about CMS and SharePoint before they want to take ownership; we have recently decided to have the access-part done by the site-owner. This comes down to add/remove/edit users to the different access groups... Which still have the site-owners scared when they need to do this themselves! "

Do you see SharePoint as an Application or a Platform ?

Application Platform Other
 17% 78%
5%

Over three quarters of you see SharePoint as a Platform rather than an Application, and just 5% of you don’t know how to classify it!

I love SharePoint because...

SharePoint Discussion"It makes it very easy for me as an IT Pro to create applications. Directing our staff to go to a "web site" makes adoption much easier."

I love SharePoint because...

SharePoint Discussion"End users have the ability to do most things they require at a very complex level without needing IT assistance and support."

I love SharePoint because...

SharePoint Discussion"It has a good set of basic services for authentication and profiling, powerful functions for lists and document management, rich set of "out of the box" functionality without writing code."

I love SharePoint because...

SharePoint Discussion"The flexibility of the platform where the sky is the limit. In addition to this - there are always multiple options for the same task, so if an end-user does not like a given flow you can always offer 2-3 other ways of doing the same thing"

I love SharePoint because...

SharePoint Discussion"The ease of implementing out of the box features. That developers can build on the OOB features to add greater functionality to suit customer needs."

What's your job role ?

We thought we’d break the ice by asking what Job Role you performed (we we’re just being nosey really!) but as you’d expect most of our responses came from an Information Technology background, with over a quarter of you being IT Pro’s.

How soon will you adopt SharePoint 2013?

It would appear that the majority of you are not expecting to adopt SharePoint 2013 in the short term, with 55.1% expecting it to take at least 18 months to migrate to the new version. 4.5% of you don’t expect to adopt it at all!

What versions are you using in production?

63% of you only use one version of SharePoint in your production/live environment and the majority are Enterprise versions. 56% use SharePoint 2010 Enterprise with Moss 2007 Enterprise the next most popular single version.

How many versions do you use in production?

We thought some of you would perhaps use a couple of different SharePoint versions in your production environments but were surprised to find 4% of you had five or more SharePoint editions running simultaneously in live - phew!

Organizations Using Multiple Versions of SharePoint

If you count all of the versions used across all of the respondents, SharePoint 2010 Enterprise is still the most popular being used in 54.3% of companies. WSS 3.0 is still used in 18.2% of organizations and Office 365 appears to be least popular being used in just 11.7% of organizations.

Have you heard about DocRead for SharePoint?

Nearly 28% of you have heard of DocRead for SharePoint, 63% have not and 9% did not answer (which we assume means ‘no’!). It would be rude of me not to take the opportunity to impart a bit of knowledge! I know you are busy, so here's a speedy overview:
